“Perkins Eastman is providing architecture and design services for the new 200,000 sf Consulate General and Permanent Mission to the United Nations for the Republic of Turkey in New York City. The site for the Turkish House – Turkevi is located at the corner of First Avenue and East 46th street, at 821 UN Plaza, across the street from UN Headquarters, along Manhattan’s famed “Consulate Row.”
The Turkish House will stand 32 stories tall (171 meters), with expansive views of the East River, Long Island City, and Downtown Manhattan. The shining glass tower will feature prominent loggias along the upper floors of the south and east faces, and be stacked atop a podium wrapped in perforated metal paneling. The building’s curving façade, inspired in part by the Turkish crescent, will ascend seamlessly into the New York skyline, departing from the surrounding cityscape of rectilinear skyscrapers.
The building will include a passport and visa branch office, lounges, kitchen reception area, conference rooms, multi-purpose prayer room, fitness center, auditorium, and underground parking garage. Ercüment Gümrük from Dizayn Grup in Istanbul is the development’s Turkish Design Consultant. The building is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2020.”
